The Wedding Chapel by Rachel Hauck

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the LitFuse Publications book blogger campaign. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The Wedding Chapel (Zondervan, November 2015)
For sixty years, a wedding chapel sat silent, waiting for love. But times have changed and the hour has come when it just might be too late.
Retired hall-of-fame football coach Jimmy “Coach” Westbrook never imagined anything would come of his labor of love—the wedding chapel he built for Collette Greer, the woman he fell for back in ‘49. But now an offer has come to turn the chapel into what it was meant to be—a place for love—and Jimmy sees no reason to hang onto his dream any longer.
Photographer Taylor Branson is trying to make a life for herself in New York. Leaving her hometown of Heart’s Bend, Tennessee, she put a lot of things behind her, including her family’s abysmal marriage rate. But love surprises her when she falls head-over-heels for Jack Forester, a top ad man. Their whirlwind romance results in an elopement, and a mountain of doubt. Jack, while genuine in his love for Taylor, can never seem to overcome his own demons to find the words of his heart.
When Taylor takes an assignment in Heart’s Bend, the job does more than send her back to her hometown, but into a world of family secrets buried beneath the sands of time.
When Taylor’s journey intersects with Coach’s, they rediscover the heartbeat of their dreams and that the love they long to hold is right in front of them. And worth every waiting moment.

Dynamic Uno here: Oh. My. Goodness.  I'm a huge fan of Rachel Hauck's books, but none have ever grabbed me quite like this one- The Wedding Chapel.
I enjoyed that the story was told through each character's point of view-both as teenagers and then again as adults.  Through the flash backs, I was able to get the backstory of the characters which put everything that was currently happening in their lives in perspective.
I also loved how the chapel itself became a living/breathing character.  I could completely picture it in my head and was actually a bit sad that the romantic gesture had been left empty and unused for so long.
The characters broke my heart because of all of the hard-ships they suffered so young.  It really brought into focus the stark realities of war and broken families, and how they affect children of all ages.  The story also showed how prayer and forgiveness can help heal wounds and bring people together.
If you want to read a wonderful novel that has romance and a great story, then pick up The Wedding Chapel by Rachel Hauck!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

She caught her prince once. Can she catch him again?
American heiress Corina Del Rey’s life was devastated by war. Every thing she loved was lost. But after five years of grief, she’s shed her grave clothes and started over in the sunshine along the Florida coast.

Dynamic Uno Here:  Once Upon a Prince (2013) and Princess Ever After (2014) are the first two books in the Royal Wedding series by Rachel Hauck, with How to Catch a Prince as the third.  While I prefer to read the books in order because some of the characters do reappear in the other stories, all three can be read as stand-alone books.

One of the many things I enjoyed in How to Catch a Prince were the characters.  I loved how despite their seemingly perfect lives, (who wouldn't want to be an American heiress married to a Prince?) we were able to get a glimpse into their very heartaches that make them seem so real.

I also love the fact that Corina lives and works in Melbourne, Florida.  I live in the Tampa Bay area so to read about a character who lives in an area that is just a few hours away makes me smile.  (Maybe I too can meet a fabulous newswoman like Gigi who will give me a job so I can own a condo on the beach.  I know, keep dreaming.)

Another element I enjoyed were the "angels in disguise" at The Manor.  You'll have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about, but I felt like Adelaide and Brill added a bit of whimsy and gave sage advice when it came to Corina's decisions about Stephen.  Love well and Trust.

Overall, I really adored the characters in this book (and series) and I hope that there are many more to come!

Why I Read this Book:  Almost every little girl dreams of growing up and finding her "prince charming," getting married, and living happily ever after.  However, what if it turns out that she is the princess (albeit unknowingly and unwillingly) and finds that her primary confidant may be her prince?

I have always enjoyed reading about the lives of princesses and living happily ever after, or at least vicariously through their stories, so when I found out that book #2 in the Royal Wedding series (Read about book #1 here) was coming out, I jumped at the chance to read about the next royal adventure.

What I Liked:  I am currently a Floridian, living in the Tampa Bay area, so when I found that our main character, Regina Beswick, was also a Floridian from the Tallahassee area (Go Noles!), I was excited to read to her story.

Regina is a down-to-earth type of girl, who enjoys hanging out with her family and her friends while doing the things she loves-such as restoring older cars.  I can only imagine her surprise when she was told that she was actually a princess from the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg, and that the country's fate rested on her shoulders.  (Talk about massive pressure and stress.)

I loved that Regina was an independent woman who could think for herself and make decisions based upon the counsel she sought and her own convictions.  Many of today's "role models" for young ladies seem to lack morals, so I am impressed that Regina would not let people pressure her into her decisions, but rather prayed about them and asked for help from the people around her.

I also enjoyed getting to know her heritage and the country's "history" through  the journal entries and the other characters.  I also liked the fact that she seemed to absorb the shock of her situation well, and rallied herself to help the people while she made her decision on whether to stay and rule, or to renounce her throne.

What I Didn't Like:  Where on earth do all of these characters get their money?!  Apparently I am in the wrong profession because even working two jobs, I can barely pay for rent and food, while the characters gallivant around like money is no issue.  I understand that Regina used to work for the rat race and may have saved some money back, but Tanner must make millions as the Minister of Culture if he's able to maintain his lifestyle and his...well, I don't want to give it away.   I know, it's a fairy-tale, but I still want to have hope that one day...just maybe...I'll become a princess too.  ;)

Overall Impression:  If you're looking for romance with the twist of surprise and delight, then Princess Ever After is the book for you.  What are you waiting for?  Go get this book!

Why I Read this Book: I've always been a fan of fairy tales--especially ones where the girl finds her prince.  After all, if it can happen in a book, why not real-life, right?  (Helloooo--Princess Diana....Catherine Middleton...ring any bells?)  Who knows, my prince may be out there somewhere, we just haven't crossed paths yet.  (At least that's what I keep telling myself.)   So, when I saw this new release by Rachel Hauck, (a fabulous writer, if I do say so myself!) I just knew I had to read it and "live" the fantasy over again.  I was not disappointed!

What I Liked:  Susanna Truitt is having a really bad day.  Not only was she left standing in the sand, without an engagement ring by her now former boyfriend, but she then has to rely on the kindness of a stranger to run off a crazy homeless guy trying to hit on her as she attempts to change her car's flat tire.  If that wasn't bad enough, she spills her guts to said stranger and then is forced to deal with the gossip mill as news of her broken relationship gets around the island.  Change is coming to Susanna's life. Is she willing to trust God (and her kooky friend Aurora) to guide her in the right direction?

"Nate Kenneth" aka Prince Nathaniel from Brighton Kingdom, is on his last "free" holiday on St. Simon's Island.  His father, the King, is very ill and Nathaniel must ascend the throne soon to help his country out of their political mess.  Unfortunately, this also means he must marry to help ease the tensions in his country, and his choices are far from what he'd desire.  Will Nathaniel trust God to bring the best for him, or will he let his infatuation with Susanna overrule his heart?

Well, you'll just have to read the book to find out what happens!  Let's just say, this book caused me to laugh and cry, and laugh some more.  If you're in love with the "happily ever after" type stories, you definitely want to read Once Upon a Prince!

What I Didn't Like: The book ended too soon!  I'm in love with the idea of love and happily ever after.  All of the little details that are added were just perfect!  (You'll understand what I mean when you read the story.)  I want to know more--especially about Aurora and Susanna's sister, Avery.

Why do we have to wait so long for the other books!?!?!

Overall Impression: Rating: 5 out of 5

If you're into fairy tales and are still waiting for your prince--you'll love Once Upon a Prince!
Let me know what you think!  Happy Reading!!

Jesus -- The Reason For the Season

By: Rachel Hauck

Through the narrow scope of 2000 years, Mary, the mother of Jesus, appears to be one lucky woman. Chosen by God to give birth to His son, the Savior of the world? All right, Mary, way to go.

“Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you,” Gabriel said.

How many of us would like a declaration like that? Highly favored. The Lord is with you. But Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

The angel told her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Mary’s seems confident and resolved when she responds, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”

She’d just been told the Holy Spirit will come upon her, that God’s power will overshadow her, that she’d become with child even though she wasn’t married, and she said, “I’m the Lord’s servant. Let your words be true.”

I find this amazing! A young woman. Ancient Bethlehem. Unwed mother. They stoned women for such things in her day. But Mary believed in God. And submitted to His will. He gave her the Holy Spirit – the same Holy Spirit given to us. If He gave her confidence, He will give us confidence. Even though, like Mary, our situation seems impossible.

Listen to Mary’s song later on in the first chapter of Luke.

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me Holy is his name…”

Conceiving a child out of wedlock, by Divine intervention. Not a girl’s every day existence. Yet she had a Yes in her heart to God. She rejoiced. She boldly said, “Generations will remember me!”

How we struggle to trust God with our children. Our finances. Our emotional well-being. We worry. We fret. And wonder why we have no peace.

Christmas is the season where words like joy, peace and love are bantered around like Christmas candy. Let’s not take them as just words, but as truth. Let’s be like Mary and embrace God’s favor on our lives. Boldly declare "He’s done great things for me!”

Out of the grit of our own souls, we can reach His heart, and feel Him reaching for ours. No matter the pain of our past, present or future, God is there for us. He is able. Best of all, He is willing. “My soul glorifies the Lord this Christmas!”
