The Story of Martin Luther King Jr. by Kid President

I absolutely love this kid!  He expresses himself very well and breaks everything down so simplistically that everyone can understand.  Here is Kid President's explanation of why we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day from the YouTube Channel- SoulPancake.  Enjoy!

Memorial Day Thoughts

After spending today with a Marine Veteran, I started to think about all of the men and women who have sacrificed themselves for us to live in this great nation.  Thankfully, my Marine friend did not lose his life, but the fact that he was willing to die for me (and you) humbles me to the point of being overwhelmed.  The fact that he loved me (even though we had never met until recently) THAT much, someone he didn't even know--to be willing to die for me, completely takes my breath away.  It also reminds me of the love that Christ has for us.  He laid down His life for us so that we could live eternally and with abundance every day.

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day--remembering all of those who have gone before us and the sacrifices they made so that we can live the lives we have today.  I also hope you will think about Christ's love and sacrifice for you.  That you are humbled to realize that He (and they) loved us to give everything they had.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

In honor of the little green men running around trying to dodge people and keep their pots of gold safe, I had to bring out this video to show you.  Say hello to the Riverdance Teddy Bears!

Popcorn Maker Fun

OK, so school starts up soon and of course I'm sitting in workshops.  Most of the time they're pretty boring, but this one (Popcorn Maker) is actually fun.

If you're not familiar with Popcorn Maker, it's kind of like Photo Story 3 on steroids.  You can manipulate web materials and graphics to create your own montage of works.  Both are free downloads, so don't worry if you're on a budget.  Don't worry--as a teacher, I completely understand.

Normally, I would follow copyright laws and ask for permission to use the content I "borrowed," but since I needed to have a finished product before I left the workshop, I went to my favorite place (YouTube) and grabbed some of their content to use for my Popcorn.   Mea Culpa.  Mea Culpa.

After working several hours and playing with the different features, here's my (1 minute) result:

Popcorn Play

Let me know what you think!  Have a great weekend!

Back to School...

This song by Mandisa is probably what most parents in our school district are singing to their kids this morning... Today is the first day of school for students. As teachers, we've been back for the past week, primarily sitting in meetings, but every once in awhile getting a chance to check out our rooms and try to get ready for the onslaught of children. This is what most of the students are probably singing (or at least another version): This is what most of the teachers are humming this morning and we attempt to roll out of bed and beat the traffic: I hope you have a wonderful day no matter which song you're singing! Wish us a lot of luck because they are invading

Say It Isn't So!!

I've been glancing at the calendar and the clock all day today. Why is this important, you wonder? Today is my last day of freedom. My last few hours of hope that millions of dollars will land in my lap so that I don't have to return to the drudgery, also known as my job, of teaching. It could happen, right? I mean, I know my millions won't come from the mailman because there's no mail on Sunday, but surely some kind-hearted soul would love to deliver my sure-ticket out of the school system. Right?... Anyone?... Bueller?...

While I'm waiting for my windfall and praying for God to save me from myself (and my job), enjoy an acoustic version of There is Nothing by Rush of Fools:

You Tube Thursday

This is dedicated to all of you who have made the tough decisions to stay with those you love instead of letting society dictate what they think the American Dream should be for you.

You Tube Thursday

Given my love for all things Paris, Midnight in Paris is a movie that I plan on seeing and savoring this weekend.  Hope you enjoy the clip, and I hope it lives up to my expectations.  If you've seen the movie let me know what you thought of it, but PLEASE--NO SPOILERS!

You Tube Thursday

Yes, I know this is twice this week that I've posted from YouTube, but I think I'm going to make Thursdays the regular days instead of Tuesdays so I can bring you Teaser Tuesdays by MizB of Should Be Reading.  Of course, I still have my addiction, so we'll see how it goes.  Here's today's selection:
